For Military Families

Biography of violin teacher Mary-Elizabeth Brown.

For Military Families

After spending more than a decade playing, teaching, speaking, adjudicating, facilitating workshops and coaching young musicians in all corners of the world, I found myself in the Persian Gulf, surrounded by sand, sun and many expat and military families. Having moved from posting to posting myself, I knew their feelings of homesickness well. While expat and military life has amazing and unique benefits, it’s tough to uproot and move from place to place, especially when it means leaving people you know and care about behind.

There is a lot to love about being a private studio teacher in the traditional sense - it’s an amazing experience to help kids and parents learn, watch students grow from little “twinklers” into accomplished young adults, and to cultivate the sense of family, support and warmth that comes with building a community, however big or small. As I prepared to leave the Gulf and the people I had met during my stay there, I set to work finding a way build that same sense of continuity and community from a distance. The result? Strings Around The World.

Thanks to technology, advancing music software, some nifty gadgets and Skype, you can now be a part of a community of students and parents regardless of where you live or how many times you relocate. All you need is a webcam and an internet connection.

We are pleased to offer special pricing to families of active military personnel. Contact us for more details.

I’m glad you stopped by and look forward to welcoming you to the family!
